Last August I posted a huffy blog post outlining the trash problem we not only have above ground, but subsequently below ground as well and when I was recently emailed an article (outlined here) regarding the European Union, scuba diving and environmental stewardship with regards to trash it has reignited my brain into considering local changes and processes I’m able to help affect within my community.
What’s Underwater and Why do we Care?
First to understand why I’m concerned about this it’s important to give a synopsis in that underwater, trash is everywhere. The same trash that plagues our roads and parks is the very same underwater but the major difference between the two is we hire ground crews on land to do cleanup, underwater we don’t. Any cleanup that takes place underwater is self-initiated and volunteer based only and as diver’s we’re significantly limited to not just what we can carry, but our bottom time and air supplies.
